Monday in Boston

Ok. You will either think that we are the best parents ever, or the worst parents ever. But we went out to tour Boston on Monday morning! Jess hadn't thrown up since 7pm Sunday night, but still wasn't hungry, and was very weak. She didn't want to stay in the hotel room with one of us and miss anything! So we asked at the front desk if they had a stroller to rent. They said no, but gave us a wheelchair for the day!! We decided to go out until lunch time and then take a break.

Jess stylin'

Stop 1 on the Freedom Trail: Boston Common:

We followed this red brick trail to all the sites in Boston:

Stop 2: state Capitol. It was fun dragging the wheelchair up those stairs.

Using a wheelchair lift in the Capitol. We quickly learned how difficult it must be to be disabled in such an old city! The old buildings and sidewalks weren't wheelchair friendly at all!

Cool stairwell:

State House of Representatives:

Lucky cod fish hanging in the chambers:

Paul Revere midnight ride art work with Paul's biggest fan:

State senate chambers:

Next stop: church

Next stop: cemetery:

Paul's biggest fan was amazed to see his grave!

The cemetery was so cool. We loved the art on the gravestones:

John Hancock had a big signature, AND a big gravestone!

Next: Kings Chapel. One of Paul Revere's bells is here:

Very cool church:

Next - Old South Meeting House, a very austere Puritan church:

Meg knows about Phyllis Wheatley, who was baptized here. Here's a book of her poems:

Meg and Phyllis:

Inside the OSMH:

Next stop- the Old State House. We went inside, but no photos allowed.

The site of the Boston Massacre:

Lunch at Quincy Market:

Jess didn't eat, but said she felt just fine, so we kept going!! The grasshopper on top of Faneuil Hall:

After a great NPS ranger talk in Faneuil Hall:

Nerdy girls working on their Junior Park Ranger booklets to earn their badges:

Such fun pushing Jess on the cobblestones:

Rare family pic between Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market:

Faneuil Hall again:

Meg knows about this tavern from a historical fiction book she loves, "Midnight Rider."

The highlight of the day - Paul Revere's house!!! We got to tour inside, but no pics allowed.

In front of Paul's house:

Cool city streets, and following the Freedom Trail:

Meg with Paul again!! Old North Church is behind them:

These pics seem like they're all Meg. She's just the only one who asked me for pics. Katie was super excited, too. We learned all about US Revolutionary history when I homeschooled her in 5th grade. She was amazed to see all of these sites in person!

Inside Old North Church:

Waiting outside:

We took a behind the scenes tour to see the bell tower (where the lanterns were hung for Paul, one if by land, and two if by sea). Here's one level up:

We didn't get to go very high. :( Here is where the bell ringers play every Sunday:

Down the stairs:

Two if by sea:

We also got a bonus trip to the crypt of the Old North Church. Very cool stories:

Mike's Pastries!! We kept seeing people walk around with these white boxes, and knew we had to find it! Delish desserts!!

Dinner: crab crusted scrod:

Lobsters for the girls:

Pasta diavolo for Chris:

Jess still didn't eat, but had a nice nap on the table!

Walking back to the hotel after a verrrry long day. We watched Matilda on TV, then the first half of the Duke/Wisconsin game, before crashing:
