April Fools!

April Fools was a day early! Look what we woke up to today:

Yesterday it was 55 and sunny, and the girls played outside for over an hour after school. No snow was predicted and it stayed above 32 last night. So we were really surprised to wake up to this!!

Early Easter

First: Megan finished book 4!! Over 700 pages long!! She's been reading 2-3 hrs a day lately!

We decided to celebrate Easter a week early this year, since we'll be road tripping from Niagara Falls to Boston on Easter Sunday. We might have a McD's Easter dinner!!

We made my Great Grandma Christensen's carrot cake in two circle pans, so we could make a bunny! Cream cheese frosting to top it off!

Chris made us a fabulous dinner while I did bug work and we all watched the MSU win. Here he is grilling in 45 mph winds with snow mixed in:

Dinner: salmon, Brussels sprouts, and au gratin potatoes. Yum!

Then we decorated eggs:

Including a new method that Chris found: volcano eggs. It involves baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar.

More egg work:

Poor bunny can't hear out of one ear! Just like Uncle Joe! :)

Catching up

Last week, I took Katie to Twisters and Treats, a special night of science for middle school girls and their moms. We learned a lot about the science of tornados, and we built a tornado-proof structure:

Last Friday was DQ's free cone day, so we went after school:

Then went to the local bike store to get a sweet new ride for Jessica:

Then went back to DQ for dinner!! :)

Last weekend were the basketball playoffs. Meg's team won in the semis, but lost in the finals. She played great! Here she is making a free throw.

Grandma and Grandpa came to see the games! Then we all went out for a pizza lunch with the team.

After lunch, Katie played her semifinal game, and her team won!

Sunday was children's choir:

Megan finished book 3:

Then the stomach flu hit our house. It was bad.

Everyone was back to normal by the end if the week. Jess went to a pump it up bday party last night:

Today was the bball finals, and Katie got to play at the Palace!!

It was a nail biter, back and forth with many ties.

But they won!! 24-22!!

Of course we went to Sumo to celebrate!! :)

Updates

Some updates:
Megan finished book 1 on Saturday...

And she finished book 2 last night!

Katie did great in the pi challenge on Monday, but someone in her class knew a few more decimals than her. She said she was only 4 or 5 away. So close!

Katie got the final scores from choir festival, and her choir was 3rd or 4th highest score out of over 30 choirs! Only the top two got the "superior" rating...again, so close! One of the top two was the boys choir from her school. Mom and Dad C got to see them, they were amazing at the winter concert.

Basketball playoff semi finals are this weekend! Megan's team is ranked first in their age group, and Katie's is second. Poor Jess doesn't get a playoff, but her team won all but one of their games.

DQ

I could probably devote a full blog to our trips to DQ. We've been there three times since it opened for the year!

First trip: to celebrate Chris' birthday when he got home from Brazil:

Second trip: for fun after Katie's last basketball practice. It was kids vs parents - very fun!

Third trip: after a walk from the library to the park yesterday, we needed a little snack!

Free cone day is Friday, and basketball playoffs are Saturday, so I think we'll be stopping by again soon!

Happy Pi Day

Listen to my nerdy children recite pi:

Jessica

Katie

Aren't they amazing??!!  Katie is learning it for a school competition, so she used Jessica as her study buddy this afternoon.  Together, they memorized the first 39 decimals of pi!!

PS - Megan is a nerd, too.  She had her nose in the first Harry Potter book all day, and finished it today after 5 hrs of reading!!  She's hooked and can't wait to start book 2 tomorrow...she put it on the edge of her bed so she can start reading as soon as she wakes up!

Choir district festival

Katie's choir district festival was today.  Here are the videos of the two songs they performed.  They earned an "Excellent" rating, the second best rating possible!  They performed on stage, then had a clinic with a judge, and then had sight reading.  I only saw the performance, then had to dash back to work.  But it was awesome!

First song: Durme, Durme

Second song: Let Me Fly
