Snow day and ER trip

[I tried posting this on my phone, with only one picture, but it won't work.  So I'll re-type it on the computer and hope it works!]

Mon & Tues were glorious days, with sunshine and warm temps!  We were outside nonstop both afternoons!

Then, Wednesday hit.  Wow.  What a crappy day.  We had a terrible blizzard here yesterday.  School was cancelled, and we girls stayed home all day.  The girls put together 19 puzzles, did watercolor pencil art, made breakfast (eggs) and helped me with lunch (quesadillas), read for an hour each, and played lots of Minecraft!  I cleaned up my bathroom and a little more in our bedroom.

We didn't make it to the cemetery for Sarah's 10th angelversary yesterday, which was really sad for me.  The weather was just awful, with tons of snow, and crazy swirling winds at 30-40mph.  It was not a day for bringing flowers or balloons to the cemetery!

Then, to top off the crappy day, Katie got hurt and needed to go to the ER.  Right before dinner, Katie and Megan accidentally crashed into each other while rounding the corner by the fridge.  Neither could see each other coming, and both were going full speed.  They both crashed to the floor, hard, and then the screaming began.  Megan got off easy, with a sore forehead and bruised arm.  Katie gashed the inside of her upper lip badly with her tooth.  There was blood everywhere!  And lots of screaming!  After about an hour, the bleeding slowed enough that we could take a close look at it, and it was a BAD gouge and very deep.  I called the nurse line and two urgent care places, they both said go to the ER b/c they don't stitch inside mouths.  So we went to the ER, just to wait and be told that they don't stitch inside mouths, either!  They said it will heal on its own, and it's best not to stitch it up b/c it will trap bacteria, food, etc inside the wound.  So Katie's deep gouge is still there today, healing.  She wanted to go to school b/c she's worried about getting behind.  I sent her with yogurt and applesauce for lunch today, and said we could make her more food when she gets home.

The rest of the week can only get better from here, right??!!

Birthday weekend!

I forgot to include this in the last post. It's Jessica's book review of a Junie B. Jones chapter book. She read it and wrote this all by herself, at school! Isn't this so cute?!? (One translation needed - "hoow" means "who")

On Friday, it was sunny and 45 degrees! That's tropical weather for us! After school, we went to the duck park to feed the ducks and take a walk:

The girls also threw snowballs into the frozen creek:

On Saturday, Jess went to a friend's birthday party at Pump It Up and had a blast with her classmates:

Today is Katie's 12th birthday! After church, we took her to the Apple Store to pick out an iPod Touch!

The employees treated her like a queen, and helped her get started. Katie picked a blue iPod, with a clear case and a little wrist strap.

Meg and Jess were content to play Temple Run 2 the whole time:

Katie wanted to go to Hibachi House for lunch, and it was delicious! She also got a slice of tempura cheesecake for her birthday!

Our beautiful Katie is 12!!

Then she opened presents at home. She loved all of the clothes from Grandma and Grandpa K!

And she loved the goodies from Erin and Chad!

She's busy playing with her new presents and fixing up her iPod. That should keep her busy all afternoon!

Busy week!

On Wed we went to a Pistons game! It was RARA basketball night, and Katie got a free ticket for playing in the RARA Pistons league.

On the concourse before the game, we took photos with some pretty girls:

And with an Indy car from the Belle Isle race: (the Indy car champion was there signing autographs)

Pregame show:

Watching the game vs the Bulls:

The real highlight was getting to go on the court after the game! I told the girls it was a dream come true for me, as a teenage Pistons fan!

We all got to take a shot, too! Katie was the only one to make her free throw.

Thursday was Chris' birthday. He had to work late, but we still squeezed in a nice dinner at Sumo Sushi:

The birthday boy got a piece of tempura-fried cheesecake, smothered in chocolate and strawberries! And he was nice enough to share it with all of us!

Right after dinner, we raced to the school administration bldg to the district art show. Both Megan and Jessica had artwork selected for the show! (Poor Katie, our artist, hasn't had her art section yet this year)

Girls with their art teacher, Mr. McConnell:

Megan's art: a Picasso face. Notice the Picasso moon, too. And the spiral notepad and pen in the person's pocket!

Jessica's art - a side view of a tiger, in watercolor. Her teacher said she was the only one to add lightning bolts!

Two busy nights in a row for our family!

Big day!

Today was a big day! First was Katie's birthday party with five friends. They made and decorated the cake, made mini pizzas, and did lots of crafts. Here they are, hard at work on making tiny clay animals:

We did some decorating and had snacks:

The girls decorating the cake:

Katie opening presents:

The awesome cake!

Katie sporting a Faygo Redpop mustache:

Singing to Katie:

Make a wish!

More crafts:

Unplanned game - pop the balloons on my cactus collection!

The aftermath:

More excitement! Jessica had a super loose tooth and decided to pull it! Chris tied on some floss, and we had a few failed attempts at first with throwing a shoe:

Then she went upstairs with Katie and Meg, and they got it out with the second door slam! There was lots of screaming and crying:

Katie promised her $5 and paid up right away:

She got happier quickly!

And has a special tooth holder for the tooth fairy tonight:

Look at that grin!

This Weekend

Jess was feeling better on Thursday, and even ate some oyster crackers while playing play doh. She went back to school on Friday.

Meg was honored as the first person in her class to learn the multiplication tables 0-10! She is now flying through the division facts!

Friday night was our gym's Daddy Daughter dance! Here are the two girls who chose curly hair:

Chris playing with Jess, hopping her up high enough for a kiss!

Daddy and Jess:

Daddy and Meg:

For some reason I don't have a photo of just Katie. But here is the whole gang:

On Saturday, we had doctors appts in the morning, went to Sam's club in the afternoon, and to Katie's basketball game at night. Her team won, and finished with a 5-1 record. They're seeded 2nd in the league, so have a first round bye. They play 3/15. IF they win, finals are at the Palace on 3/30!!!

On Sunday, we went to church, shoveled 3 more inches of snow, played in the new snow, and played our first whole-family game of Scrabble! Chris had some iffy words (fiz? Kevin?) but used his iPhone to justify them. Jess had the word of the day: video!

Shortly after this game, Meg turned pale, then started vomiting. Yes, the stomach bug has spread. :( she is staying home from school today.

Tues is a day off school for teacher training, so she'll get two days to rest, which is good. But we have Katie's birthday party with friends planned for tues afternoon...lets hope no one else gets sick!

YES... FIZ is a valid word in Scrabble!
