Science Fair!

This past Monday was the school's "Night of Art, Culture, & Science"  aka Science Fair!  I was a co-chair (organizer) of the science part of it, but the girls also participated in the art and cultural parts of it.  It was a lot of work, but worth it to see their pride in showing off their projects to their friends and teachers!

Jessica the botanist

Katie the astronomer

Megan the astronomer.  She is now fascinated with Greek mythology, too!

One of Megan's art fair submissions.  This one won the "Sister Helen award" for being closest to the school's motto this year, "Follow the Son"

Katie's cultural fair poster about Madagascar

One of Katie's art fair projects.  (a "W" fell off)

January happenings

A few pics from our January:

I knitted another "infinity cowl" for a friend.

Katie (#20) has had lots of practices and basketball games this month.  She and her team have improved so much, and she loves the game!

Katie got to be an altar server for a school mass last week.
Cute little Katie with her friends!
I got to be a chaperone/driver for Megan's class field trip a few weeks ago.  We went to our city's museum, which has a restored farmhouse.  The kids had lots of fun hauling water, washing clothes, carding wool, and stuffing mattresses.  And they learned a lot about our city's history, too!

The girls are now into stargazing!  Katie & Megan picked astronomy projects for the science fair this year, and love to look outside for their favorite constellations!

Jessica wants to be a botanist, so she chose a flower project for her science fair poster.  Can you see the pride and happiness just oozing out of her in this picture!?
I'll put the science fair pics on another post.  Nothing much else is going on...same old craziness with basketball, ballet, and choir.  Did I mention that I am now "babysitting" a few afternoons per week?  I help out a family in our neighborhood with a disabled 12-yr-old son, I get him off the school bus and hang out with him inside his house for 45 min til his big brother gets home from high school.  He and Jessi are good buds...they both love Dr. Seuss books!  She reads to him every time, and he usually listens.  He also likes to play the game of fetch with her...throwing a book on the ground, and laughing hysterically when she picks it up. She is such a good sport, and is so kind and patient with him.  It has been a good experience.

We have lost power twice in the past few weeks, which is always an unwelcome hiccup.  We had a snow day on Monday due to freezing rain.  And tonight it's dropping from 62 to 22, so who knows if we'll have school tomorrow after the three days of rain freezes solid.

Ping pong!

Chris found a ping pong table top for our pool table today. The girls were so excited!

Notice the new curtains? Megan picked them out, with red flowers to match the red pool table.
Our basement project is coming along nicely!!

Last day of break

We crammed a lot of fun into our last day of break.  I took the girls to the new "Michigan Science Center" in downtown Detroit this morning.  It is the Detroit SC, just reopened under a new name.  It's still tons of fun!  We went to a cool planetarium show and an electricity show, in addition to the usual fun:

After lunch, we met up with lots of school friends at the local skating rink for an afternoon of rollerblading.  The girls were in heaven with friends and loud pop music!  Jessi was a hoot, skating around and singing at the top of her lungs.  The moms were amazed that she knows all the words to all the songs!  All three girls were great little skaters, and I skated the whole time, too.

We were all pooped after that, so we watched some DVRed trashy shows (Toddlers and Tiaras, anyone?) before packing their snacks/lunches/snow gear and taking showers before school tomorrow.  7am will come waaaaayyyy too soon tomorrow!

A miracle!

It's a New Year's miracle!!

We have a car in the garage!  If you had seen our garage even 12 hrs ago, you would never believe that we could ever fit a car in there.  After a long day of moving, pitching, and stacking, the garage is usable once again!

We also had fun today, skating on a lake in our friends' back yard.  I forgot the camera, but here's Robin's cell pic of us:

Tomorrow, Chris goes back to work, and Thursday, the girls go back to school.  :(  Christmas break will be over before we know it!
