Tigers game

Sorry for the delay in posts...I have been trying to post a video of Katie's ballet recital but it's not working...Erica gave me some tips so I will try again later.

But here's our exciting day at a Tigers game! The Holy Family Dads' Club organized a group trip to the game today. About 75 people came, and we all sat together, wearing our HFRS gear. There weren't any of Katie's friends there, but there were a lot of familiar faces.

We started by having an early lunch at Cheli's Chili. The girls got coney dogs, and amazingly didn't get any chili on themselves! Then we got to our seats.

Sundays are Kids' Days, so the girls got a free ride on the carousel. The line for the ferris wheel was crazy long, so we skipped it.

We stopped by to visit Ernie Harwell...

And enjoyed an exciting 8th inning, with a 3-run home run to give the Tigers the lead and the win! Then the girls got to run the bases after the game. Here we are in the tunnel under the stadium...

And walking on the field...

The funniest thing ever happened - Jess got freaked out by the Tigers mascot, Paws, standing at 2nd base to cheer kids on. Katie & Meg didn't realize that she stopped, they kept on running. This left Jess stranded between 1st & 2nd base, too afraid to go to 2nd base, where Paws was standing.

A nice lady took her hand and led Jessi around the field, but with all of our yelling, we didn't get any more pics of Katie or Megan running the bases. We did get Jessi touching home plate, though!

Here they are in front of the dugout.

And here we are leaving the game. They have such neat mosaics and sculptures all around the stadium.

All three girls napped on the drive home, and we vegged for the rest of the evening. We'll all sleep well tonight!

Megan's Tap Routine to "Old MacDonald"

So here is Megan's tap dance routine, as videotaped at her dress rehearsal on Monday (6/7). Mom C, don't watch if you want to be surprised on Saturday at the recital! I wasn't thrilled with the song choice or the costume choice, but both actually turned out really good. Megan is a good little dancer, and the teacher chose her to lead the class onto stage. She knows her stuff! (Let's hope she can remember it til Saturday!)

Busy, Busy Wednesday

I didn't have my camera with me today, so no pics. But listen to all the fun stuff we did today! In the morning I drove to Brighton (1hr away) with Meg & Jess to the USDA lab to pick up supplies for my bug kits. On the way back, we stopped by the zoo to have lunch and see some animals. I let each kid pick one animal to visit. Megan picked alligators, and Jessica picked zebras. Of course we visited lots of other animals on the way to and from their picks.

Then they caught a quick car nap on our way back home. I was the guest reader in Katie's class today, so I brought groggy M&J into school with me to read at 3pm. Jess laid her head in my lap the whole time I was reading! I got to take Katie home a little early, and we all went to the library to sign up for the summer reading program. Each kid picked out a ton of books. It was nearly impossible to drag them out of there!

Chris met us at home and helped make a yummy dinner of black bean burgers, salad (from our garden), and couscous-corn salad (see recipe blog). Then we went on a nice walk through the neighborhood. Katie talks a LOT when we go on walks...we joke that her jaw bone is connected to her legs! We talked about summer vacation plans. Then baths, books, and bedtime for the babes. Now I'll attempt to post pics - and hopefully video! - of Megan's tap dress rehearsal.

Newborn Fawn!

Right after dinner tonight, we had a surprise visit by a newborn fawn! It was walking around our front patio, bleating helplessly for its mama.

It was not at all scared by the 5 of us running up to the front door to watch it...in fact it walked up the steps and onto the porch to get a closer look at us!

It was soooo tiny, maybe 18" tall!

We decided to shoo it to the back yard in the hopes that its mama was back there...but when Chris went outside to scare it away, it walked right up to him and rubbed up against his leg! He did manage to herd it to the back yard, and it walked into the woods, still calling for mama. We are all so sad thinking about the lost fawn. I hope he found his mom!

Katie's Art & Music Night

Tonight Katie had her school's art & music night, where the kids get to show off everything they've learned this year in art and music classes. The kids' artwork was posted in all of the hallways and in the library. They made many art projects this year and each kid got to pick one project to display for this event. Katie picked her "Op Art" project, where they carved styrofoam, painted it, and ran it through a press to make a print. I forgot to take a picture of it tonight. Oops. Bad mom.

Then we went to the gym and were treated to a nice performance of song and dance by the 2nd graders. See Katie in the blue flowered dress?

Some kids performed dances to the songs, others played percussion, and Katie's group played the xylophones!

The finale was a rousing version of "Stars & Stripes Forever" with the kids playing the rhythm with paper plates...you had to be there to appreciate it. We got a front-row seat and had a great night.

Afterwards we met up with the girls' BFFs (a family with 3 girls), and the six girls were wild and crazy together and scarfed down a zillion cookies. They had a blast tonight.

Welcome!

Welcome to our new blog!! I have been getting so far behind on emailing updates and posting pictures, that I decided to try a new approach - blogging. Maybe if I post about each event separately it won't be as daunting as trying to upload the hundreds of pictures from the past few months.

Hope you enjoy it. Wish me luck!
