Day 3 - Tahquamenon Falls

Last Thursday, we woke up in Mackinaw City to a gloomy sight off our hotel balcony: clouds.

So, after enjoying the hotel breakfast, we took the girls to the waterpark up the street! (We got free admission wrist bands from our hotel) This was one of the highlights of the trip for the girls!

After spending all morning at the waterpark, we headed north across the Mackinac Bridge. It was super foggy...we could hardly see the bridge at all:

We made it to the UP! We had lunch in St. Ignace, outside, on a deck overlooking Lake Huron and Mackinac Island. It wasn't foggy at all in St. Ignace. Then we drove up to Tahquamenon Falls State Park. What an awesome place!

Silly walk on one of our hikes through the park.

We hiked down to the water - about 100 steps - and the girls walked down AND UP them all! They're so tough.

I loved this spot right at the top of the falls.

Then we walked down to below the falls to get a different view. More steps! More tough kids!

The hike and the view were so amazing!

Now the hike back up....

After touring every square inch of the Upper Falls part of the park, we drove 4 miles to the Lower Falls. It wasn't nearly as dramatic. So we got big drippy ice cream cones and sat down to enjoy the view. We were all too tired to hike any more.

Then we drove to Sault Ste. Marie, checked into our hotel, and ate Mexican for dinner. After dinner we wandered into a park downtown, and found ourselves right at the Soo Locks! We had no idea the downtown was so tiny!

We stood at the top of the observation deck to watch this cruise ship enter, rise, and leave the lock.

A little tug boat was in the lock with it.

We stood around for the rest of the night, watching ships go back and forth through the locks, and rising up and sinking down. We were so close to the locks and the boats, as you can see in the pics. It was soooo cool! We slept really well that night, after such a long day.
