We spent a lovely morning at our campsite:

Meg and Jess checking out the sunrise |
So beautiful! |

We didn't spend long at the campsite before hightailing it to our second night's campsite on the far south end of the island. We wanted to get there before the ferry arrived, so we'd have a good choice of sites ahead of the new arrivals. It turns out we didn't need to worry, there were tons of great sites.

More hiking |

A rare buggy part of the trail |
Millipedes everywhere!! |
Around the middle of the island we got to an old road, a much wider trail. |
We passed the cemetery, and spent time looking through it. |

The old island schoolhouse |

Getting closer! |
The south part of the island had lots of yews, which were so cool to see in their "natural" state (aka not clipped). It reminded me of Ireland, which also had lots of natural yews. |
Getting close to the beach! We can hear it! |
We made it! The view from our campsite! |
Setting up camp. I like to think that they are saying nice words to each other. |
Lunch of ramen noodles and spam wraps. It was super windy and the flame kept going out on our stove. |
Our home for Day 2! |
There were about 20 sites on the south end of the island, and we saw people pretty regularly on the trails, but couldn't really see anyone from our campsite, which was nice. There are more people at the south end sites b/c the they're only a mile or so from the dock. I actually ran into a guy who was at grad school at MSU with me! A fellow entomologist! It was nice to catch up with him and meet his wife (who was not really that into backpacking haha).
I have a million pics of the adventures of the rest of the day, so I'll make a new post for them...
Great narrative about your camping trip. What a great adventure. But it's not for me any more. I like a warm hotel room!
